Why did you apply to the University of Birmingham?

The UK has got some of the world’s highest ranked universities and is known for its high quality education and facilities for students. It is also extremely easy and straightforward to apply to UK universities. University of Birmingham specifically was ranked in the top 5 of UK universities for Chemical Engineering at the time I was applying.

What are the best points of your course?

The course itself is taught by high-quality professors and academics, who are extremely helpful and easy to approach. Chemical Engineering is a very challenging, but interesting course to study which always keeps my brain challenged and gives me the incentive to work harder. The course has great scope for future prospects and there are various fields in which you could work as a Chemical Engineer after study.

What’s the best thing about studying at the University of Birmingham?

The  student societies are one of the best things about studying at Birmingham. There is a society or club for almost everything and I personally enjoy my time in the hockey, dancing, cooking, engineering and Malayalee societies. It gives me the opportunity to indulge in my passions outside of my course.

What's the highlight of your time here so far?

The huge campus itself is one of the highlights, although, the Chemical Engineering School feels very homely and cosy to me now. The School also gives great support in finding placement opportunities in your penultimate year by giving great advice on building your CV and practising interviews.

What advice would you give to other international students?

I would advise all international students to really take advantage of the city, campus life and the top education they will receive in the UK.  I would advise them to use their time to apply for placements as having experience before starting your career is very important for almost all companies. This is also a way to get a job in the UK after graduation by showing your potential to the company.

What do you like most about the city?

Part of the city centre called is called Brindley Place and it is definitely the prettiest place in Birmingham. It has similar views of canals like those in Venice. The city is the popular and we can find all kinds of shops and restaurants with different cuisines.

How do you feel you have benefitted from the experience of studying in the UK?

The facilities and education provided in the UK is exceptional and brings the best out of bright students. I also feel the exposure to a wide culture makes me feel more confident when conversing with people. Along with great education, the UK also gives the freedom of exploring what we like to do and it's great to have recreational time in the beautiful cities.
