The Unequal Academy: the experiences of Black and minority ethnic academics

This seminar will explore the experiences of Black and minority ethnic academics in higher education. It will examine how White privilege and processes of racism, exclusion and marginalisation which work to benefit White groups. Consequently, White groups work to control their own positions of power by failing to acknowledge racism and racist practices in higher education. Higher education remains a White space reserved for Whites only.

Kalwant Bhopal is Professor of Education and Social Justice. She was appointed Professorial Research Fellow from 2017-2020. In January 2020 she became Director of the Centre for Research in Race and Education (CRRE) in the University of Birmingham School of Education.

This event is open to University of Birmingham colleagues and students only. You do not need to register, but you must join the webinar using your University Zoom account.
