Dr Jennifer Frommer

PERCAT Rep for the School of Chemistry.

What is your academic background and your current research field?

I’m a biochemist by training and received my PhD in the University Greifswald, Germany. My research is focused on Nucleic Acid Chemistry and I’m specialised in the synthesis of modified ribonucleosides and their incorporation into RNA. I joined the School of Chemistry in January 2020 as a Research Fellow. My research interest shifted towards DNA and my current work revolves around the design and synthesis of modified DNAs for DNA-templated Chemistry.

What is your role as a PERCAT Rep and how can postdocs in your school contact you?

As a PERCAT Rep from the School of Chemistry, I want to participate into creating a well-connected community and an open environment for discussing all the different concerns of being a Postdoc.

Please feel free to contact me via J.Frommer@bham.ac.uk and I’m happy to arrange a (virtual) meet-up over a tea or coffee.

What do you feel are the benefits of the PERCAT programme for postdocs and what do you feel have been the benefits to you from being a postdoc rep?

The PERCAT programme offers the excellent chance of getting valuable training sessions and workshops in several different disciplines, which suits your desired career best. Moreover, the PERCAT programme is a great opportunity to connect with each other from different research backgrounds, creating not only a scientific exchange, but a supportive community.
