You are invited to attend the Inaugural Lecture of Professor Alex Richter, from the Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy.

Alex Richter, Professor of Clinical Immunology, will speak on 'The wicked game - an exploration of why we are vulnerable'.

Death from infectious disease has reduced dramatically over the last 100 years and the evolutionary competition with microbes has favoured the human host. However, many patients with immunodeficiency remain susceptible to recurrent and severe infection. The COVID-19 pandemic has really highlighted the vulnerability of this group of patients who are either born with an immune defect or acquire one due to an underlying health condition or treatment required to suppress the immune response. As an academic clinical immunologist, my research is focussed on detecting immunodeficiency in these patients, understanding their risk of infection and trying to work out how we can prevent infection – in particular whether vaccination is effective.

This lecture is open to all, both in person and via livestream. If you are attending via the livestream, please register above - then join the livestream via Zoom here
