The College of Medical and Dental Sciences has been a major contributor to health education for more than a century, and is a leading international centre for both research and education.

Our aim is to tackle global healthcare problems through excellence in basic and clinical science, and improve human health by delivering tangible real-life benefits to people in the fight against acute and chronic disease.

Location

Our College is situated in the south of the city of Birmingham on our picturesque Edgbaston campus; a stone’s throw from one of Europe’s leading hospitals, in one of the UK’s largest and most diverse healthcare regions. The campus is adorned with green spaces and gardens, and is characterised by our striking landmark red-brick buildings and vibrant multicultural student community.

We have our own train station on campus with excellent links to the city centre, and through to London in just 1 hour and 30 minutes. Birmingham also has its own international airport with many international routes, making the university easily accessible by rail and air, and the perfect place to explore the UK and Europe beyond.

A global destination

With a population of more than 28,000 students including 9,000 international students from over 150 countries, Birmingham is one of the largest international student communities in the UK. We support International Students by familiarising them with the UK educational system and helping them to develop their academic English.

Our teaching

Our programmes are taught by world-leading experts and welcome students from a wide range of backgrounds.  Many of our undergraduate programmes are able to accommodate international students, as are our wide-array of further study, postgraduate options. Scholarships and funding for international students

The University offers a number of scholarships to outstanding international students.  Visit our Postgraduate Funding Database to find out if you are eligible for financial help.  There are also a number of scholarships available that are provided externally to international students wishing to study in Birmingham.   • In the QS World University Rankings 2021, we are ranked 20th in the overall category of Life Science and Medicine, with subject specific rankings of note being Dentistry in the top 20 and Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy and Pharmacology being in the top 100.
  • US News rankings - 28th for surgery, 33rd for Endocrinology and Metabolism, 34th for Cardiac and Cardiovascular Systems, 37th for Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and 58th for Clinical Medicine.
