Professor Gideon Hirschfield from the Centre for Liver Research in the Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy has been awarded the prestigious Graham Bull Prize in clinical science and Goulstonian Lectureship from the Royal College of Physicians.

This award is made to researchers under the age of 45 for a major contribution to clinical science and as part of the award Professor Hirschfield will deliver the revered Goulstonian Lecture which was first endowed in 1635. 

Gideon was recently conferred the title of Professor in Autoimmune Liver Disease from the University of Birmingham which reflects the tremendous contributions he has made since joining Birmingham in January 2012.  His significant work in areas such as PSC and PBC, and his many successful collaborations with industry, have strengthened his burgeoning profile as a world leader in autoimmune liver disease.  

The Graham Bull prize was established in 1988 in honour of Sir Graham Bull, who was the first director of the Clinical Research Centre at Northwick Park.
