Year 10 Activities

Our programme of Year 10 activities aims to introduce students to the variety of careers available to them in the healthcare sector, linking university study to the secondary school curriculum.

Insight Day: Medicine

The Insight Day: Medicine introduces Year 10 students from schools in the West Midlands to careers in Medicine. It aims to raise the aspirations of under-represented groups of students to study at University and to pursue a career as a doctor. Held in the Medical School, students will hear about Life as a Medical Student and Being a Doctor as well as learning about the different Routes into Medicine. Students will participate in workshops aimed at giving the students an insight into the research and various disciplines that underpin medicine and healthcare.

The next Insight into Medicine event will take place on Wednesday 22nd March 2017. For further information or to book a place e-mail Shaheen Barkat, s.barkat@bham.ac.uk

Medical and Dental Sciences Discovery Day

Our Medical and Dental Sciences Discovery Day offers students the chance to find out more about the science and research that underpins healthcare. It provides the opportunity for students to investigate specific scientific disciplines, and will help to provide a link between what students are currently studying and how it is applied outside the classroom. Students will participate in interactive workshops and find out more about subjects such as immunology, anatomy, physiology and cancer biology.

Our current students will give participants an insight into what it is like studying at university and there is also a chance to find out about the qualifications required to study on our different degree programmes and the career opportunities they open up.

Our next Discovery Day will take place in the summer term 2017. Booking for this event will go live in February 2017. Please check back then for further information.
