MSc Genomic Medicine, part time 2015/16
This course is completely relevant to my job especially when recruiting patients for genomics work.
What is your background?
I have been working as a nurse in Inherited Diseases at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for 5 years. I have an interest in genetics and have previously completed Open University courses and other short genetics courses to extend my knowledge. Fourteen years ago I completed an MSc in Health Sciences (Nursing) at the University of Birmingham and I recently decided to consolidate my knowledge in the area of genetics by studying the MSc in Genomic Medicine.
How have you found the course so far?
The course can be very intense as rather than building on existing knowledge we are learning a lot of new information. At times it feels like we even have a new language to learn but if you are thinking of doing an MSc this is definitely worth doing.
What advice would you give to health professionals thinking about studying on this course?
You need to be prepared to commit to doing the course and once you have started you just need to get on with it!
How do you think this course will improve your career prospects?
I hope this will lead to a wider range of job opportunities and give me that extra step when opportunities come up.
