The University's Library Services are responsible for the management and maintenance of over 2.1million printed books and journals across seven lirbary sites. Library Services continually invests in technology, facilities, resources and people, to support the high quality research and learning environment of the University.
Library Customer Support offers a variety of services including book loans and help and advice in relation to our printed and electronic collections. The team caters for people who come to the library in person and also provides a one-stop-shop service for online and telephone enquiries.
Library Academic Engagement includes the Academic Skills Centre team which helps undergraduate students develop their academic writing and general academic skills. It also includes the Academic Support team which, through its network of subject advisors, helps students, researchers and staff develop a wide range of information literacy and research skills. In addition, subject advisors liaise closely with colleagues in Colleges to plan their information resource requirements for learning, teaching and research, and they obtain feedback on current and proposed services and resources.
Collection Management and Development is responsible for the negotiation, procurement, cataloguing, discovery and management of all print and electronic information resources provided to our users. It also includes the Digital Assets Team which is responsible for making University of Birmingham research output (such as journal articles and theses) openly available and discoverable. This team also provides copyright and licensing advice and support.
