Professional Services in The College of Medical and Dental Sciences

The College of Medical and Dental Sciences operates in close partnership with the NHS in the delivery of a broad range of clinical and biomedical educational programmes, with currently over 4000 undergraduate and 850 taught and 500 research postgraduate students, and a significant (£295m) research portfolio.  

The College is a major international centre for biomedical research, delivering world leading research activities to develop and nurture excellence in basic, clinical and applied health science, and to ultimately improve human health, as exemplified through Birmingham Health Partners. 

As Director of Operations, Dr Kate Bishop is responsible for directing and developing the College’s operations and administration and is part of the College’s leadership team and a member of the Registrar’s Leadership Group. The College Professional Services Senior Management Team works in partnership with and ensures the delivery of high quality support to academic colleagues in their teaching and research activities.  

The College-wide Professional Services teams also provide support services for our students, from application to graduation, and to visitors and external partners. This includes providing specialist expertise across a range of activities including: technical and facilities support for teaching and research; research and knowledge transfer expertise to identify, develop and deliver research funding opportunities; student services support to enhance the student experience at UoB and in partner organisations; and marketing, alumni and engagement activities.
