What do people want from their civic leaders in Birmingham? People similar to themselves or those seen as the experts? Individuals who put values first or those who get things done? Young or old? Female or male? We invite you to share your opinions on what you value in a leader - whether this concerns politicians, charity leaders, youth leaders or business leaders and more.

Hosted by Professor David Hudson and Dr Claire McLoughlin

To start the conversation, we will discuss the latest findings from the DLP research project on their survey data on what people look for in a leader, both in the UK and Indonesia.

The event will also include a panel of local leaders, who will give a first-hand account of the issues raised, including:

  • Preet Kaur Gill, MP for Edgbaston
  • Professor Colin Diamond
  • Kiran Kaur, co-founder of GirlDreamer.

Attendees will then be able to discuss what they want to see from their leaders. The event organisers will use these discussions to create a live interactive experiment, allowing attendees to test their theories about which characteristics matter more than others do. The experimental data will be analysed in real time, and the results presented back on the day, allowing us to see what kind of leader is most preferred. The results will demonstrate how you - as Birmingham citizens - would choose to build a leader.
