Mick is Chief Executive of the ExtraCare Charitable Trust, a charity that develops and operates large multi-tenure retirement villages. Before joining the ExtraCare Charitable Trust Mick was Chief Executive of the Student Loans Company, a government body and ‘digital exemplar’ organisation that lends £18 billion per annum and has seven million customers. Prior to that, Mick was Chief Executive of Advantage West Midlands, the regional development agency for the West Midlands.
Mick has held a number of non-executive director roles in the public, private and charity sectors including: governor of Coventry University, Chair of Business Link West Midlands and board member of Marketing Birmingham and the National Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). Mick is currently a non-executive director of Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. Mick was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands in 2018.
Mick is a chartered accountant by background and a graduate and honorary fellow of Liverpool John Moores University. Mick is also a graduate of the government’s Major Project Leadership Academy, University of Oxford. Born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, Mick has lived in the Midlands for most of his life, has four children and supports Aston Villa.
