Fair employer and wellbeing

The University employs more than 8,000 staff who carry out a huge variety of diverse and valued tasks which keep the institution delivering high quality research and life-changing education. Staff are supported in a number of ways:

From August 2019 University staff will continue to be paid at least the Voluntary Living Wage for the fifth consecutive year, with our lowest paid staff seeing an increase to £9.44 an hour, which is considerably higher than the £9.30 an hour recommended by the Living Wage Foundation.

Commitment to wellbeing

The wellbeing of staff and students is crucial, and something taken very seriously. Services are in place for all who need them, including:

  • Wellbeing and mental health services for students and staff
  • A partnership with Pause, delivered in partnership with Forward Thinking Birmingham
  • Access to physical activity opportunities, including Sport and Fitness facilities and clubs like the Green Heart Runners
