Moving into University accommodation is exciting, but can be daunting too. There are some simple steps we can all follow to help keep you and your new friends safe and well.
We will continue to monitor updates from the government and the education sector as we get closer to Welcome, and will update you on any changes to restrictions that may impact your time in accommodation.
Getting to know your flatmates
Connecting with others in your accommodation can help you feel more at home. The Guild of Students hosts a range of Facebook groups to help you connect with other new students.
Please be aware that each year we see a number of unofficial Facebook groups set up for 'freshers' or accommodation sites. Be cautious of who you are giving your information to and bear in mind that many of these groups are set up by promoters who want to sell tickets to events. We recommend following updates from the Guild of Students, who provide the only official freshers' events for the University of Birmingham student community.
All of our accommodation villages are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and so is our campus - with our own Security team on hand if there's ever an emergency. Your health and safety is our number one priority.

Our Security teams work 24/7 to keep our campus community safe, and provide guidance for staff and students. Find out about Security.
If you are in University accommodation or living with our Partner, Unite Students, you will be able to report maintenance requests or check the status of laundry machines from an accommodation app, minimising physical interaction.
