Student ID card and Proof of Study

Your student ID card proves that you are a student at the University and gives you access to buildings and services including Student Living Plus and the Library. You can also access documents to prove your student status, if needed.

Getting your ID card

You need to complete Online Registration (including uploading a suitable photo) before you can get your student ID card.

Welcome Registration Hub

The Welcome Registration Hub has now closed for 2023. Any student who needs an ID card (including distance learners) should request one online. New Study Abroad & Exchanges and Birmingham International Academy students will receive their ID card as part of your induction.

Getting a proof of study letter

A proof of study letter confirms your student status at the University, for example to be used when opening a student bank account or applying for council tax exemption. Both new and returning students can view, download and share these online.

Returning students

Your ID card is valid throughout your programme, so you don't need to request a new card unless yours is lost, damaged, or the information on it has changed. If you need to request a new ID card for one of these reasons, you can use the online request form.
