Social media can be a great way to join in the excitement of starting University! Take a look at the different ways you can connect with the University community online.

Visit the social media hub to connect with the University's main channels, or to browse the social media directory to find channels related to your School, Department or interests.

Facebook groups

Facebook groups are a popular option for new students to chat with new coursemates and flatmates.

The University hosts a Facebook group for offer holders, for you to meet other students, ask questions, and find out more about Birmingham. The Guild of Students hosts a Facebook group for new students, as well as groups for each Halls of Residence run with the Residents' Associations. There's also a dedicated group for Postgraduate students. Check the Guild of Students' Facebook groups page to join.

Remember to take care over posting personal details such as your new address, just as you normally would. Also be aware that each year a number of unofficial 'Freshers' groups and accounts on social media sites. These are often created by club promoters and may deliver misleading or inaccurate information. Please refer to the University and Guild of Students channels for the most up-to-date and accurate information.
