Student parents and carers

Studying alongside parenting or caring responsibilities can be an exciting but challenging experience. As a parent or carer, you may have additional things to think about as you prepare to start your studies.

There is information available on our student parents and carers intranet page, including information on additional sources of funding, the University's nurseries, and student maternity guidance.

Student Services have also collated additional information specifically for student carers, to help you understand the support available to you as a student.

The Sarah Hawkins Award exists to assist students who are Young Adult Carers (aged 18-24) in meeting living costs while studying at University, including additional costs incurred as a result of their caring responsibilites.

The Student Hardship Fund (SHF) is provided by the University to help students who are experiencing genuine and unavoidable financial difficulties and are struggling with their living costs. The SHF is a discretionary grant, offering support of up to £2,500 in an academic year which does not need to be paid back.
