Arrivals Weekend is a busy time, especially if you are moving into accommodation. Find out what is happening on campus to help you make the most of your first weekend with us.
Arrivals Weekend will take place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September 2019 and there will be a wide range of activities for all new students, whether you are moving into University accommodation, living in private accommodation, or will be travelling to the University as a commuter student.
Throughout the weekend you can enjoy musical performances, sport demonstrations, and other activities taking place at the centre of campus. You can listen to live music, grab a bite to eat at one of our many food outlets, take a trip around campus on the land train, and find out more about the services and opportunities available to you as a new student - just head towards Old Joe, our famous clock tower!
Music, sports and food
Head to University Square to find our main stage, with performances from students and local artists. Sports demonstrations will be taking place throughout the Green Heart over the weekend, ahead of the Sport & Fitness Fair on Tuesday 24 September.
There will be a whole range of food options available over the weekend, from coffee and bacon rolls for the early risers, to tapas and hot food to help keep you going. Pick up an Arrivals Weekend map when you arrive to check opening times.
Commuter students are an important part of the University community, whether you are living with your parents or partner, moving in with friends, or living alone. Arrivals Weekend is for all students, regardless of where you will be living. Head to campus to join in activities, enjoy the atmosphere, and get organised for starting your studies. Your friends and family are welcome to join you.
The Commuter Students' Welcome Day at the Guild of Students on Sunday 22 September is your opportunity to meet other commuting students, find out about the Guild of Students, and much more.
There is free parking available all weekend at the multi-storey North East Car Park on Pritchatts Road.
Parents' Welcome Addresses and Parents' Lounge
Open to parents, carers, partners and friends of all new students, the Parents' Welcome Addresses are designed to give you an insight into life at the University and information about the range of services and support available to students.
Throughout the weekend, the first floor of Staff House (Edgbaston Campus) will be available for parents to use to take a break and relax or arrange as a meeting place with students after the Parents' Welcome Addresses.
Welcome Marquee and campus tours
The Welcome Marquee in the Green Heart (near the Main Library, Edgbaston Campus) will be open between 10:00 and 16:00 for you to meet the services that are here to support you throughout your time at the University. You can book a campus tour, pick up a campus map, or ask one of our friendly Welcome Assistants for help.
Our new Wellbeing Marquee is open 10:00-16:00 on the Green Heart, and provides a quiet and relaxed space get creative, connect with friends, try out new activities or just take some time out to reflect.
Talk to our Wellbeing staff and discover information to help you be pro-active in looking after yourself during your time at University. With a huge range of activities on offer, including yoga, board games and origami, it’s the perfect opportunity to meet new friends and try something a little bit different during Welcome.
From Arrivals Weekend onwards, our Welcome Hubs on campus are open to help you complete the essential tasks before you start your studies, including ID cards, Right to Study checks for international students, and help with Online Registration.
