  • Our strong links with industry mean that rigorous undergraduate academic study is combined with a real practical focus, leading to excellent job opportunities for our students.
  • The University of Birmingham is the first choice for leading graduate employers searching for graduate recruits (High Fliers Research 2024).

Your programme of study

Foundation year

Designed for international students who require a preparatory year prior to undergraduate study, the foundation course is equivalent in learning to year 13 of the UK education system. Successful completion of year 1 of the foundation course will also guarantee you progression onto the Business Management BSc (Hons) programme. You will need at least 100 credits, an average of at least 60%, at least 60% in Academic English and Study Skills and at least 65% in Quantitative Methods for Business and Economics.

We will ensure you're fully prepared for your undergraduate programme, immersing you in the university environment and giving you dedicated support in your first year in Dubai, on our business management foundation course.

The BSc Business Management with a Year in Industry course

Given the fact that business is conducted today in a global environment and that it is necessary to be able to interact with other markets and cultures, an international underpinning is to be found in most modules. In addition, an appreciation of other contemporary issues such as digital marketing, international entrepreneurship and management strategy is found throughout our business management course, which will also endeavor to impart a sense of corporate social responsibility.

Year one is an introductory year and introduces the key themes of the programme, e.g. marketing, organisational behaviour, accounting and finance. At the end of this year, from June to September, you will undertake a work placement in Dubai for 3.5 months, which will be assessed via reflective assignments.

In year two we adopt a generalist approach although modules begin to become more focused and specialised. At the end of the study period, from June to September, you can undertake a work placement in the UK for 3.5 months that is assessed via a mini dissertation.

Year three of the course features modules that are increasingly focused. The year is underpinned by a compulsory dissertation which will allow you to investigate an area of personal interest in more depth.

The quality of teaching is like no other, having a flying faculty ensures that we have access to the same quality of teaching at the Edgbaston campus.
