Open screening: Girlhood

As part of Black History Month 2023, the B-Film research centre and the Department of Film and Creative Writing invite you to a screening of the brilliant 2014 French coming-of-age drama Girlhood ('Bande de Filles'). Written and directed by Céline Sciamma, the film focuses on the life of Marieme, a teenage girl living on the outskirts of Paris.   Nominated for four César awards, Sciamma's film explores concepts of race, gender and class.

The film is introduced with a public lecture by guest speaker Dr Alice Pember  author of Performance as Politics: The Dancing Girl in Contemporary Cinema, forthcoming from Edinburgh University Press.

This is an open screening, with no booking required.
