Smart materials, being defined as a kind of material, with the capability of sensing and reacting, are exposed to changing environmental conditions or stimulus. In recent years, an increasing number of novel multi-functional materials have been developed, the applications of which have covered various important fields including automobile, aerospace, telecommunications, and so forth. This talk mainly focuses on the recent progresses of soft active polymer (SAP), such as shape memory polymer (SMP), electro-active polymer (EAP) as well as the nanocomposites based thereon.
Lecturer: Professor Jinsong Leng is Cheung Kong Chair Professor and Director of the Center for Smart Materials and Structures (CSMS) at Harbin Institute of Technology, China. His research area covers Sensors & Actuators, Stimulus Responsive Polymers (Shape Memory Polymers, Electro-Active Polymers), Multifunctional Nanocomposites, Active Vibration Control, Structural Health Monitoring, Active Morphing Structures, etc. Prof. Leng has authored or co-authored over 200 scientific papers, 8 books/chapters, 29 issued patents and 17 pending patents, and invited to deliver more than 70 Invited Talks at International Conferences, Universities and Research Institutions, including 19 Plenary/Keynote Talks at SPIE Smart Structures/NDE, ICCM, ICCE, IUTAM-ICTAM, FEOFS, ICEM, MFMS, BAMN, ECCOMA, ICIT, etc. He has served as Chairman and member of Scientific Committees in International Conferences and as Guest Editor in scientific journals, including the Chairman of Asia-Pacific Committee on Smart and Nano Materials (APCSNM), Editor in Chief of International Journal of Smart and Nano Materials (Taylor & Francis, UK), Associate Editor of Smart Materials and Structures (IOP, UK), Associate Editor of Journal of Intelligent Materials Systems and Structures (SAGE, UK), Associate Editor of International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sciences (The Korean Society for Aeronautical & Space Sciences, Korea) and Editorial board member of Composites A, etc. Prof. Leng has been elected as an Executive Council Member of the International Committee on Composite Materials (ICCM), Fellow of SPIE, Fellow of IOP (Institute of Physics), Fellow of IMMM (Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining), Fellow of RAeS (Royal Aeronautical Society), and Associate Fellow of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics).
