Ibtihal Ramadan

Dr Ibtihal Ramadan has joined the University of Birmingham Education Equity Initiative (EEI) team in June 2023 as a research fellow. Prior to that she worked as lecturer in the Department of Education and Childhood Studies- Swansea University, Post-Graduate Tutor,  University of Glasgow, and a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Edinburgh. She has led and taught across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Education. Dr Ramadan acquired Fellowship in HEA in 2022. She has extensive experience mentoring and supervising MSc students.

Dr Ramadan has a PhD in Education- interdisciplinary (University of Edinburgh). She conducts research in the areas of social policy, particularly regarding minoritised groups, EDI policies and practices in HE, Islamophobia, race and racism, Muslim identity, (gendered)-religious microaggressions, and decolonisation.

She is a qualitative researcher drawing from Critical Race Theory, Postcolonial Perspectives and decolonial scholarship.  She  contributed to the Steering Group of Ad-HE project on Tackling racism on Campus and Anti-Racist Curriculum (ARC) Project (Scotland); currently she is a member of ARC Professional Network (Scotland).
