Title of PhD: Climate Change and Variability: The Impact on Climate-Sensitive Diseases up to 2050s for North-West Nigeria

Supervisors: Dr Gregor Leckebusch, Professor John Thornes

Auwal Farouk Abdussalam is undertaking doctoral research into the impacts of climate change on meningitis and cholera in North-Western Nigeria. He is using station data, health data, and climate simulations in the statistical modeling of the impact. He has recently presented his research at the International Open Science Conference organized by the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) in Denver, and at the Early Career Scientist Assembly (ECSA) workshop at the National Centre for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, USA.

Biography

Auwal Farouk Abdussalam previously studied Geography at degree level at Bayero University, Kano, before undertaking a Masters in Geography (Applied Climatology) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, all in Nigeria. Between his Masters and current PhD research he spent four years as a lecturer in Kaduna State University, Nigeria.
