State management of technological and economic performance in industry: The Ministry of Technology in Britain, 1964-1970

Supervisor: Professor Peter Burnham and Dr Ross Abbinnett

I am interested in the social, political and economic implications of techno-scientific innovation. My work currently examines the British state’s intervention in what came to be known as the “white heat” of the scientific and technological revolution of the 1960s. My next project will explore the left’s travailed relationship with both economic patriotism and political internationalism, with a focus on the labour movement’s contribution to the construction of economic nationalism in Italy and the UK since 1945.

I joined the University of Birmingham in 2009 as an undergraduate student, before which I lived in Southern Italy and in New York City. I have teaching experience spanning five years and have been a Visiting Lecturer in the Birmingham Business School. I have also volunteered extensively for radical and transformational causes.
