The Athena SWAN Charter promotes and rewards good practice in the recruitment, retention and progression of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) subjects. The University of Birmingham obtained a Bronze Athena SWAN Award in March 2012 and the School of Mechanical Engineering is working towards obtaining its own Bronze Award.
