Biography

John has been involved in criminal justice research, consultancy and teaching at Birmingham for some twenty-five years and has a strong track record of commissions for the Home Office, Lord Chancellor’s Department / Department for Constitutional Affairs / Ministry of Justice on aspects of policy and practice within the criminal (and civil) justice sectors, as well as for other agencies at national and local government levels.

He is editor of the journal VISTA: Perspectives on Probation, Criminal Justice & Civil Renewal. John has acted as a specialist adviser to the Council of Europe on management in criminal justice and on legal data systems and also to the House of Commons Select Committee for Transport (on the subject of local authority parking enforcement).

He is a member of the National Criminal Justice Council for England and Wales and also a member of the Courts Board for Staffordshire, BlackCountry and West Mercia. He is also a District Councillor in his home area of Malvern Hills.
