Biography

I completed my PhD in 2011 from Jamia Millia Islamia on the influence of fatwas and feminist consciousness among Muslim Women. I continue to specialize in issues around gender, women and other marginalized communities and have organized a number of workshops, seminars and other programmes on women’s issues, gender sensitization and feminist research methodology, contributing also to training on gender equality across India’s universities. At Aligarh Muslim University I also serve as Nodal Officer for the MHRD’s Gender Champion Scheme and a Programme Officer of the National Service Scheme (NSS).

I have a number of publications in national and international journals and authored a monograph titled The Future of Indian Muslim Women: Fatwa Vs Feminism(2012), co-authored a reference book for the UGC NTA NET Exam in Women’s Studies (2019) and have co-edited books titled Muslim Women: What Everyone Needs to Know (2019), Women of Marginalized Community: Concerns about Exclusion (2020) and Oxford of the East: Aligarh Muslim University (2020).

Research

My research interests revolve around issues pertinent to women, religion and other marginalized communities, since women are considered among the most marginalized and vulnerable groups globally. My research work covers the diversities and cultural practices of different faiths in the world affecting women. It also touches upon other nuances associated with gender and social practices. My research plans would further lead to exploring and channelizing the potential of religion for women empowerment.
