Student profile - Karen Murch

Physician Associate PGDip, full-time

The course was both challenging and enjoyable and prepared me well for my placements and job as a PA.

Why did you decide to study this programme at the University of Birmingham?

Following my degree in Human Biology and careers in Forensic Science and teaching, I decided to fulfil my lifelong ambition to study medicine.  After investigating the GEC medical course and Physician Assistant Diploma I decided that the role of a PA matched best my ambitions and personal commitments.

How did you find the programme?

The course was both challenging and enjoyable and prepared me well for my placements and job as a PA.  I undertook my elective at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon which led to my working there for nearly three years in acute medicine.

Are you enjoying your PA role?

The role of a PA has enabled me to study and practice medicine within a relatively short time, with greater flexibilty but no less satisfaction than a more established role in medicine.
