Approaches to Blended CPD Short Courses Development Transcript

The pandemic has made it challenging for professionals to attend Continuing Professional Development courses which are essential for their career enhancement and progression.

In the College of Medical and Dental Sciences we are delivering CPD in a more accessible and flexible way, offering an online blended approach using institutional core tools to support and deliver teaching to external students.

This is a collaborative project between HEFi, IT and Conferences and Events. Our HEFi team designed a CPD CANVAS template which includes all pedagogic tools that we use for asynchronous delivery of teaching and Zoom for synchronous interactive sessions.

Conferences and Events support registration with the online shop and through IT, request iVLE accounts for external students and enrol them into CANVAS courses allowing student access to the material ahead of live sessions.

This new format allows us to offer a blended and/ or distance learning alternative to face to face teaching for CPD.  It also provides more flexibility for students and allows more participants to attend due to the lower cost of travelling and accommodation, and the reduced pressure and time away from work. It also has the potential to attract more international professionals who will now be able to benefit from our range of short courses and expertise.
