The Application Process

Who can apply for BISS?

To be accepted onto BISS, you must be over 18 and studying an undergraduate programme at a University outside the UK or be registered as an International student at a UK university. You must be of good academic standing and meet the BISS English Language requirements, as well as subject specific requirements if applicable. For more information, see the Entry Requirements page. How do I apply?

All applications should be made online. Apply now for BISS 2018.

When is the application deadline?

The final application deadline is 22 April 2018.

In order to receive the early application discount, students must apply before 20 March 2018.

When will I hear from you about my application?

Students will receive an email confirming that their application has been received by the University. All applications are processed by the University Admissions Office, who will aim to inform you of the outcome within 2 weeks.

Please note that applications without an academic transcript or university certificate of attendance will not be considered.


How much is the BISS fee?

The BISS fee is £2,500. Please see our Fees and Discounts page to find out whether you are eligible for a discount.

What is included in the BISS fee?

The fee includes tuition and assessment, self-catering accommodation in University halls of residence and a programme of social events.

Can I get a discount?

When is the payment deadline?

All BISS payments must be submitted in full by 6 May 2018.


Will I receive credits for the programme?

Yes, each programme is equivalent to an accredited undergraduate course: 20 UK credits, 5 US credits, or 10 ECTS.

When will I receive the credits?

Students will receive a certificate of attendance on completion of the three week programme during the BISS awards ceremony. An official transcript will be sent out to students between October and November 2018.


Which visa should I apply for?

You should apply for a Short Term Study Visa.

How do I apply for my visa?

The University Admissions Office will provide you with a letter to use for your visa application once the conditions of your offer have been completed.

Preparing for BISS

Will accommodation and catering be provided?

Self-catered accommodation is provided as part of the BISS fee.

When should I arrive in the UK?

The allocated arrival day for BISS students is Sunday 15th July 2018. Information will be sent out to all students with further instructions.

Will an airport pickup be provided?

An airport pickup will be available to students travelling to Birmingham International Airport during an allocated time on the arrival day, Sunday 15th July. An email will be sent out to students with further details prior to BISS 2018.

When can I register with the University of Birmingham?

An email will be sent to all students detailing the registration process.
