Our Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery degree programme, which we are offering at BSc and integrated Master's level, will equip you to be at the forefront of opportunities for chemistry graduates.

The scientific and transferable skills you will develop are in high demand across industrial and academic research, as well as more widely in business, finance, and the public sector.

[Series of stock footage clips overlays speech as follows: a scientist looking through a microscope, a lecturer
teaching a class of students, a handshake between two business people, a stock exchange graph, and a teacher
teaching a seminar.]

You'll build a deep understanding of theoretical and practical, organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry.

You'll also see how they all come together in specialist modules on drug discovery and medicinal chemistry.

[Stock footage of a pharmaceutical process of drug production.]

You'll benefit from close ties to the QE too, one of the largest hospitals and right next to the university.

You'll learn about what makes a good medicine and how molecules behave in the body, how they interact with their target, and the different ways in which drug molecules can be delivered.

[Stock footage of visualisation of molecules.]

Our expert academics in the School of Chemistry work closely with experts in the School of Biosciences and the Medical School.

Birmingham is a great hub for innovative health care solutions, as recognised by a £210 million investment in the Birmingham Health Innovation campus.

[Series of clips overlaying speech as follows: outside footage of the Collaborative Teaching Laboratory at the University of Birmingham, two clips of students working in the labs within the CTL.]

You'll spend a lot of time in years 1 to 3 in practical classes.

You'll do those in our Collaborative Teaching Laboratory which is a £40 million development that has equipped our undergraduates with some of the best lab facilities in the country.

For students on the integrated Master's programme, you will also join one of the leading research groups who are based in the Molecular Sciences building - the new home for chemistry at Birmingham.
