How University expertise can help you deliver your charitable goals

I’m from a trust or foundation: How can the University support our vision?

Dozens of trusts, foundations and charities have chosen the University of Birmingham to help deliver their mission.

Whether you are dedicated to changing lives or changing the world, we would love to talk with you to see how we could work together to advance our respective ambitions.

As a charitable funder, there are lots of ways we can work together. We can arrange a discovery day for you on campus, at your offices or remotely, enabling you to see our existing work, meet the researchers, and understand the application of their work. We can also offer you the chance to talk to potential applicants about how you like to receive proposals, meaning that you spend less time reading bids that aren’t quite right.

We want to understand your giving objectives to identify how we could work together. We have active interests in educational advancement, environmental progress, arts and culture, medical research, disadvantaged communities, social injustice and much more.

Our partnerships with trusts and foundations currently include:

  • A maternal health project with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which aims to reduce severe bleeding after birth and ultimately reduce maternal deaths by 25%
  • Research funded by Alice’s Arc, a childhood cancer charity, to improve treatment for children with a rare form of cancer (RMS)
  • Capstone Care Leavers Trust’s support for the Care Leavers Scholarship, which helps young people who have been in care to study at University without financial disadvantage
  • The creation of the state-of-the-art Wolfson Advanced Glasshouses, through which the Wolfson Foundation is accelerating research into mitigating the effect of climate change on our forests and our food supplies
