Our purpose-built state-of-the-art sustainable smart campus demonstrates our continuing commitment to providing a world-leading research-informed university education in the heart of the UAE.
Whilst students have been able to study with us in Dubai since 2018, in 2022, we moved into a new, purpose-built state-of-the-art sustainable smart campus offering a student experience like no other in Dubai. The University of Birmingham was the first global top 100 and UK Russell Group university to establish a campus in this rapidly developing international education hub of Dubai.
Campus is where our diverse community comes together, providing a home for up to 3,000 students, a community for Birmingham alumni in the region, and a hub for engagement activities with businesses in the local community. It continues our legacy of connecting the brightest students from across the globe in a university renowned for research and teaching.

Embedded with cutting-edge technology, our new campus delivers a world-class physical and digital experience for students, staff, and visitors. Utilising IoT technology, the campus utilises a bespoke mobile application that enables its users to work smarter and organise their time more effectively. Through one unified platform, students will be able to:
- Quickly identify available study spaces
- Navigate campus with personalised step-by-step directions
- Receive live notifications when something of interest is happening nearby
Described as an ‘intelligent campus’, our new campus has been specifically designed to embrace sustainable practices, ensuring the university leads the way in corporate environmental responsibility whilst delivering a modern building that is capable of adapting to changes in technology, learning, and climate. This innovative technology is integrated within the curriculum, across subject disciplines, and utilised by industry partners through research projects, consultancy opportunities and student internships.
Our new campus, located in Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), has been designed by Hopkins Architects and the construction managed by TECOM Group. Uniquely designed in the shape of a crescent moon and inspired by the historic Aston Webb buildings in Birmingham, our bespoke new facility in Dubai visually fuses the history and stature of our Edgbaston campus with the heritage, tradition and beauty of Arabic culture and architecture. With iconic buildings overlooking stunning parkland, the campus provides an inspiring setting for both learning and working.
Collaboration is central to the campus’ design, reflecting real-world working practices. Students and staff can take advantage of exceptional working spaces. From large lecture theatres and laboratories to small seminar rooms, these spaces can adapt to various purposes, including seating configurations and lighting conditions.
As well as partnering to develop a smart and sustainable campus, Siemens have an innovation lounge on campus that provides a collaboration and learning area for events, presentations, hackathons or workshops.
TECOM Group is one of main drivers of the UAE’s knowledge economy and a key supporter of home-grown talent. To this end, we are committed to consolidating Dubai’s position as a destination of choice for world-class academic institutions. Our partnership with Birmingham on the development of this campus is testament to our continued support to our partners to create an ecosystem that enables growth and makes a positive impact in the region.Malek Al Malek, CEO of TECOM Group
