Why did you choose your programme and to study at the University of Birmingham Dubai?
Firstly, UoB Dubai is the first top 100 university in Dubai, which has many excellent lecturers and professors, and they can provide more professional knowledge. The reason why I choose computer science is my personal situation. I am not good at writing essays or reports, but the computing and logic ability are my strengths. (By the way, I am interested in computer games, and this could be another reason why I chose this degree.)
What has your class experience been like on your degree programme?
In computer science, there are only a small number of students and many professors to support us in study. So, when we have questions, we can ask them and get responses immediately. Usually, if we have a programming course like Java and robotics, the class will take place in the computer lab. Also, if we forget to bring our laptop, we can borrow one from University by using our student ID card. Moreover, for the robotics course, we have enough Lego robot packs for us all, so everybody has the opportunity to use them.
What has your student experience been like so far?
There are many activities on campus, and this year, we have a lounge, which includes one table ball equipment, a PS4 and other card gaming. We have many students who come from everywhere from the world, so, we also celebrate many different festivals. My classmates are friendly and easy to cooperate with to solve problems.
What has your experience been like in Dubai?
When talking about Dubai, the first thing is there are hundreds of different shaped buildings. In Dubai, there are many ways to relax after class. You can go to the beach, malls or bars (if you are above 21). And, Dubai is a safe city, you can even keep the door open when you sleep at night. In my spare time, I go to the gym or hold a small party in my home. And sometimes I go to the mall with my friends.
What advice would you give to prospective students?
Dubai is very hot in summer but it’s cold in the morning, from November to March, it would be a good idea to bring a hoodie.
