Confirm your right to study

Before you begin your studies at the University of Birmingham Dubai, you must complete a Right to Study Check. This is a legal requirement and ensures that all students have the correct permission to study in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Why this matters

The UAE’s Ministry of Education requires all universities to hold accurate and up-to-date records for all registered students, including UAE and GCC nationals.

As a Birmingham Dubai student, you are required to confirm your immigration status and ensure your documents are valid throughout your duration of study.

The University of Birmingham Dubai is also required to follow the regulations outlined in the University’s Code of Practice on Student Immigration Visa Permissions for Overseas Campuses (PDF, 111 KB).

What you need to do

To confirm your right to study, please follow these steps:

  1. Complete your online registration: you must be a registered student before completing the right to study check
  2. Gather required documents: ensure you have all necessary documents, including a copy of your passport, and for non-GCC nationals, a copy of your residence permit/visa and Emirates ID (colour copy front and back – can be downloaded from the UAE Pass app)
  3. Complete the Right to Study Check: upload the required documents to the form
  4. Verification: our team will review your documents to verify your right to study, and contact you should any further information be required

The information you provide will be used solely for the purposes of your studies in Dubai and will be shared with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). For details on how we handle your personal data, please refer to our privacy statements.
