Course structure
This course will run over 1 year full-time, or 2 years part-time. While the exact content may change, here’s what you can expect to study each term. This is based on a full time Masters course.
Term 1
Term 1
In the first term, you’ll study Global Health Economics, Systematic Reviews and Evidence Synthesis and Epidemiology, Statistics and Research Methods.
Term 2
Term 2
In the second term, you’ll study Economic Evaluation, Policy and Economics of Healthcare delivery and Modelling for Health Economics.
Term 3
Term 3
Term three will be dedicated to your dissertation. This will be on an agreed topic in an area of health economics or health policy.

Course delivery
This programme is available both full-time and part-time at our Dubai campus. You’ll learn from world-leading academics and researchers at a top 100 global university. From the outset we’ll challenge and encourage you to become an independent and self-motivated learner.
This course consists of several taught modules and a dissertation.
- Taught modules – provide you with foundational knowledge and skills in the role of health economics in healthcare decision making.
- Dissertation – this will be on either a health economics or health policy topic. Working on your own, you’ll also have access to an academic supervisor to support you.
- Assessment – these include written assignments, presentations and exams.
We offer a combination of evening and weekend classes which are designed to accommodate working professionals and those who choose to study full-time.

Entry requirements
To secure your place at the University of Birmingham Dubai, you must meet both our general entry requirements and the specific criteria for your chosen course. Your application will be carefully reviewed by the course’s Admissions Tutor, who will determine if you will receive an offer.
- 2:1 Honours degree
You should have a 2:1 Honours degree, or an equivalent professional qualification and profession experience in health services management. This course doesn't require a first degree in economics.
English language requirements
In order to undertake a programme of study here at the University, you will need to demonstrate that you have a good level of written and spoken English. You can demonstrate your level of English with IELTS/TOEFL/PTE or alternative qualifications.
Fees and scholarships
The University tuition fee covers the cost of your tuition, examination and graduation.

Paying your tuition fees
We charge an annual tuition fee. The fees quoted are by full time or part time per year of study. For those studying courses over two or more years, the tuition fee will also be payable in subsequent years of your programme.
Tuition fees can be paid in full or in three instalments per year of study.
