Course overview
Social marketing is a framework for health promotion included in the World Health Organisation’s European Policy for Health and Well-being, Health 2020. Social marketing is also one of the key competencies for the public health workforce, according to the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) and the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH). The CPD module prompts strategic thinking skills and communications, which then will be used to creatively solve problems applied to public health.
Course delivery
The course is structured in an in-person workshop followed by an online self-paced course (optional).
In the workshop, participants, in groups, will work to design a social marketing plan to address a real issue of their choice. In the online course, you can learn the social marketing planning framework at your own pace, engage in 1:1 asynchronous discussions with the tutor, and receive personalised feedback from the tutor and the other participants.
The online course consists of three units, which could be covered in three or six respective weeks. Every unit included explanatory videos and readings that will prepare you to complete short “knowledge checks”. You will have the chance to fill in an outline plan for a social marketing campaign for feedback. There will also be a regularly timetabled discussion hour with the module tutor at the beginning and end. This course will be delivered as an in-person workshop hosted at the University of Birmingham Dubai (UAE) on April 27 - May 3 2026, and followed up by online self-paced content (3-6 weeks).
The deadline to apply is: 20th April 2026 (00:00 GMT)
The assessment will consist of online quizzes.
