We want you to enjoy and make the most of your time at university. Navigating the new challenges and excitement of University life can make it easy to overlook your own wellbeing. That's why we make sure you have all the support you need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Settling in
Feeling a bit nervous about your first few days at university? Don't worry. Our friendly staff and student ambassadors are here to help you find your way around campus, meet new people, and feel at home. During Welcome Week, you'll have the chance to settle into your course, join social events, and access plenty of support to help you adjust.
Whatever you need assistance with, our team are here to offer advice and guidance throughout your time with us.

Health conditions
Our Learning Support, Disability, and Mental Health Services are here to assist you throughout your studies.
If you have study support needs that are related to a long-term condition, we can help. This includes dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties, long-term illness, sensory disabilities, mental health difficulties, autism conditions, or other health conditions.

Societies, sports, and fitness
Students’ AssociationOur Student Experience and Wellbeing Team are here to help you most of your time at the University of Birmingham Dubai. You can explore a wide range of opportunities beyond your studies, including sports, community volunteering, and arts and culture.
Whether you join a sports club or meet like-minded people in a society, our Students’ Association will ensure you have plenty of opportunities to socialise, network, and enjoy your time here.
We place our students at the heart of everything we do. Our dedicated support team will be on hand to ensure that you have the best possible student experience while feeling safe and secure throughout your journey with us.
Wellbeing services
Our dedicated Student Wellbeing Team in Dubai are here to offer advice and guidance throughout your time with us. You can also access specialist support both locally and online through our Edgbaston campus, including counselling and mental health services.
Birmingham offers a variety of resources to help you develop skills to manage practical, emotional, and psychological challenges that may impact your studies. Additionally, you can explore a wide range of interactive tools to set and achieve goals related to your physical health, diet, mental wellbeing, and even improving your sleep.

You can book a 30 minute appointment online, in person or via telephone call. These sessions are available throughout the year and are open to all current students.

What does wellbeing mean to our students?
Wellbeing means different things to different people. We asked our students what wellbeing means to them. From managing workloads to finding balance in life, hear how they look after their health and wellbeing whilst studying at Birmingham Dubai.
For me, wellbeing means managing my workload. I want to ensure that I manage my time well and that I only take on work to the degree that I can manage it efficiently while also having some time to myself. I also like meeting people and talking to my friends. This is also wellbeing to me and interacting with others gives me joy.
Wellbeing, for me, is a mixture of elements that each represent a different aspect of our lives - physical health, mental clarity, emotional stability, and social connections. It's about achieving a balance between all these elements to feel fulfilled and content with ourselves. As part of the student association, I'm passionate about creating a space and an environment where students can explore and prioritise their wellbeing in their own unique ways.
For me, wellbeing means being healthy and happy. In other words, it involves having good mental health, being highly satisfied, and feeling grateful for our lives. Moreover, it encompasses having a sense of belonging and purpose, as well as being able to manage our stress. Of course, each of us will experience moments of weakness, which is perfectly fine. However, it's important to always make ourselves stronger again by believing that God always does what is best for us. Utilising helpful tools such as meditation, yoga, and listening to music can aid in this process. Additionally, seeking professional help is important when needed.
