A day in my life

My days usually kick off at 8:00 AM on campus. I head straight into lectures, focusing on consumer behaviour and adapting marketing strategies to fit an ever-changing digital world. Around noon, you'll find me grabbing lunch with my friends in the Atrium food court.

Because I'm doing a double degree in Law as well, I head back to my student accommodation and join the Law lectures online, dedicating the rest of my afternoon towards that.

In the evenings, I like to wind down by watching a movie or hanging out with my friends.

On days when I don't have classes, I have slower mornings with lots of coffee and a heavy breakfast before heading to my internship at a law firm.

I spend the rest of the day reviewing case files and drafting contracts, as well as helping with social media marketing and company presence. I go back to my dorm early in the evening and get dinner with my friends, ending the day on a good note.

Why Birmingham Dubai?

I chose the University of Birmingham Dubai because it allowed me to study at a UK university while taking advantage of the career opportunities available in Dubai.

As a Russell Group university, Birmingham's academic reputation was a big factor in my decision. I wanted a degree that would be recognised internationally.

What ultimately made it stand out, though, was the University's emphasis on employability and practical learning. The opportunity to undertake an industrial placement, learn from experienced academics, and engage with real-world business challenges aligned with the kind of education I was looking for.

I attended the on-campus Open Day a few months before officially committing to UoBD. The Open Day tour helped me tremendously as I got to meet professors who clarified any questions I had regarding my course and got a tour of where I would be spending the next 3 years of my student life.

Why did you choose to live and study in Dubai?

I chose to live and study in Dubai because it is a vibrant, multicultural city with excellent opportunities for both personal and professional growth.

One of the things I love most about living in Dubai is how diverse it is. Every conversation, group project, or event introduces you to people with different perspectives and experiences, making it a perfect place to study business. Dubai is a busy city that constantly offers new experiences.

What made Birmingham Dubai the right place to study Business Management with Marketing?

I chose to study BSc Business Management with Marketing and Industrial Placement because I wanted a degree that combines a strong foundation in business with practical marketing skills. I have always been interested in understanding how businesses grow, build relationships with customers, and adapt to changing market trends.

One of the standout features of the course is the industrial placement year, which provides valuable professional experience and the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a workplace setting. I was also drawn to the interactive teaching style, including case studies, group projects, and practical assessments.

My Birmingham Dubai experience

My student experience has been a mix of learning, exploring, and finding my place in a new environment.

Some weeks I'm leading discussions as the founder and President of the Philosophy Club, other weeks I'm at my internship in a law firm, learning something completely new. I love that no two days look the same.

When I'm not studying or working, I'm usually with my friends. Some of my favourite memories have come from spontaneous plans, trying new places to eat, or going to live music events around the city.

Birmingham Dubai’s impact

Birmingham has supported me throughout my studies with resources that go beyond the classroom. The Careers Network has been incredibly valuable in helping me understand my career goals, improve my applications, and prepare for opportunities that align with my interests.

As an Industrial Placement student, I have received additional guidance in finding an internship that matches my skills, interests, and long-term goals.

The support I have received through career advice, CV guidance, and opportunities to connect with employers has helped me feel more confident about taking the next step towards my future career.

Advice for students

The biggest piece of advice I would give prospective students is to make the most of every opportunity that comes your way and not limit your university experience to just academics.

Take the time to make friends and put yourself out there, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. The people around you can become your support system, your study partners, and some of the best memories you make during your time at university.

I would also encourage students to get to know their professors and not be afraid to reach out. They genuinely want to help and often have valuable advice, connections, and opportunities to share. In my own experience, building a relationship with one of my professors led to an internship opportunity that I may not have found otherwise.

Most importantly, keep an open mind and allow yourself to explore. Join a society, attend events, try something new, and make time for the things that make you happy. It is easy to get caught up in deadlines and academic pressure, but university is also a time to grow as a person, create memories, and discover what you enjoy.
