BHM2020 - Birmingham International Academy Student Discussion

Location
Zoom
Dates
Friday 16 October 2020 (13:00-14:30)
white people

The Birmingham International Academy (BIA) will facilitate a 90 minute student led event in which speakers from the BAME community (specifically BIA or former BIA students) talk about their backgrounds and share experiences of life in the UK. The aim of the session is to provide attendees with an opportunity to gain an understanding on issues that they may not otherwise be exposed to elsewhere. The suggested idea is for student leads to read an extract to the audience from Reni Eddo-Lodge’s book, Why I’m no longer talking to white people about race. The text will then be used to form a discussion, led by the students, on topics such as (and not limited to) what they expect of race awareness after coming to the UK (positive or negative), micro-aggressions experienced, and feeling silo-ed.

All Students welcome. Maximum capacity of 50.
