‘Awareness of and attitudes towards disability have greatly changed for the better over the years. Introduction of legislation has fuelled the adoption of required physical environment changes but also has resulted in changes in society and culture. The next phase towards equality is likely to include more nuanced changes focussing on individual needs which many can find challenging.

Alison Cooper has volunteered to be a “book” as she has an invisible disability and has had experience of conversations and situations where others have found it awkward to discuss needs of individuals with disabilities for fear of causing offence. As a “book” she would like anyone who wants to discuss such situations to feel that this is a low-stakes opportunity to improve conversations to the benefit of all.’
