Shostakovich Symphony No. 5 in D minor, op. 47
The new Head of the Music Department takes the helm for this performance of Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony – ‘deep, meaningful, gripping music ... perfect in form and the mastery of orchestral writing ... so truly and sincerely does it recount human feelings’ (Heinrich Neuhaus). The programme also includes the winning work from the University’s 2011 Composition Competition, by recent graduate Patrick Stockbridge.
