Healthcare Heroes

Year 9 Boys Into Healthcare Careers Activity Day

Friday 5th July

Healthcare Heroes will be an exciting and interactive outreach event which will use hands on activities to introduce Y9 male students (aged 13-14 years) from schools in the West Midlands to the wide variety of careers in healthcare. It aims to raise the aspirations of underrepresented groups of students to study at University and to pursue a career in healthcare. The students will visit the University campus and the Medical School. They will rotate around a number of sessions aimed at giving them a taste of the sorts of jobs they could go on to do.

The event will be held on Friday 5th July and will run from 9.30am-3pm in the Medical School at the University of Birmingham campus. Please note that places are limited and will be reserved on a first come first served basis. Schools can book either 5 or 10 places each and we would encourage staff to target students appropriately for this event. It is suggested that schools bring along male students who are interested in science and working with people and who are also currently under represented in Higher Education and healthcare professions (e.g. students from non-professional backgrounds, students where neither parent has attended university, students on free school meals and/or Pupil Premium students).

This is a free event and there is no cost to schools. Lunch will be provided for students and accompanying staff. Please note all schools will be expected to make their own way to and from campus.

To book places or find out more please email MDSOutreach@contacts.bham.ac.uk and include ‘Healthcare Heroes’ in the title of your email.
