Applying for copies of Special Collections material
- Researchers can request copies of material held at the Cadbury Research Library by completing one of our reprographics forms below.
- A publication request form should be completed where the images we provide will be shared through publication, exhibition, or any other form of sharing.
- A private study request form should be completed where the images we provide will not be shared, and will be used only for your own research or personal use.
- Requests for copies of material are granted at our discretion and may be subject to restrictions including copyright legislation, conservation constraints or other conditions (e.g. closed files).
- Orders for personal use are completed within 15 working days. Requests for publication may take longer.
Payment methods
Please do not send payment with your order. You will receive an invoice setting out the cost of your order and means of payment after your copies have been made.
Payment should be made via our online payment system. Your copies will be issued to you on receipt of payment.
Imaging charges
- £8 handling fee applies to all orders
- £1 per image/page (PDF or JPEG available)
- VAT, where applicable, will be added to the cost of the order
- Where possible we will send your images free of charge by email or web transfer
- Once an order has been placed it cannot be cancelled and the full fee applies
Orders totalling £50 or more will be subject to a £25 deposit plus 20% VAT (where applicable) before work is started. You will be emailed a link to make your deposit payment upon submission of your reprographics form. The deposit will be deducted from your final invoice.
Images supplied for publication, exhibition, or any form of sharing, are subject to the charges outlined above, and may also incur an additional publication usage charge which will be decided on a case by case basis. If an additional publication charge is to be applied, we will inform you of the amount before copying work begins.
Requesting images for private study only

If permission is granted by senior staff, use of requested images must be credited 'Cadbury Research Library : Special Collection, University of Birmingham', and the full reference number of the document given.
Use of cameras in the searchroom
- Researchers may bring a hand-held camera to take images in the reading room. Use of flash, tripods and scanners are not permitted.
- Researchers should check with a member of staff on duty before taking any images as some items may not be suitable for copying due to conservation restrictions and copyright legislation.
- There is no charge for taking images with your own camera. If images are for anything other than private study, discuss your intended use with a member of staff.
