OMIG symposium 2021: Exploring novel molecular aspects in Oral Microbiology

In association with the National Biofilms Innovation Centre (NBIC) https://www.biofilms.ac.uk/

Our 2021 symposium will focus on highlighting recent advances in the molecular understanding of the oral microbiota and it’s dynamic nature (Dr Shi Qi An and Dr David Moyes) alongside exciting talks exploring molecular level detail of how bacteria live in the oral cavity.  Specifically, we have exciting talks covering aspects of microbial glycobiology (Dr Lucy Crouch) and are very pleased to welcome Professor Ben Berks from Oxford who will be telling us about the structure  and function of the novel Type IX secretion system that has changed our understanding of how bacteria secrete virulence factors and represents a potential novel drug target for periodontitis treatment.  We will also hear about how the National Biofilms Innovation Centre is supporting biofilm research in the UK.
