About Us

We prepare people for life's adventures.

The Raymond Priestley Centre is owned and run by the University of Birmingham and is part of the UB sport department. We provide residential learning opportunities using outdoor activities and the environment. The University of Birmingham is one of three UK universities with its own dedicated outdoor education centre.

The Raymond Priestley Centre is a multi-award winning outdoor education centre. It recognised by the Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres as having achieved the ‘Gold Standard’ for the quality of provision and teaching of its courses. The Centre is also a Royal Yachting Association recognised teaching centre, and a Sailability Centre.

You can find out more about our outstanding teaching and learning experiences on the dedicated page.

We are here to:

  • Provide outstanding opportunities to learn and develop the key skills required to work effectively with other people
  • Create a positive learning environment that allows individuals and teams to try things out as they develop new skills which they take away with them
  • Give opportunities to form new working relationships
  • Use activities such as canoeing, mountain walking, and problem solving tasks to help individuals work together as a team
