Entry requirements

The following information is for guidance only and should be used together with the University's general entrance requirements and any specific degree programme requirements.

Please note: If you have taken exams which are from another country's national education system (eg the Arbitur from Germany or SAT and AP exams from the USA) you should consult the country specific section for that country for qualification equivalence information. If you are unsure about the acceptability of your qualifications for entry to Birmingham please contact us for further details.

Foundation Pathways

If you would like to begin your studies at Birmingham early, then our foundation programme offers you an on-campus experience, with teaching from our University academics.
We will consider students at Grade 12 with 7.0 and students at Grade 11 with 7.5 or above in their school examinations (bang tot nghiep pho tong trung hoc) for entry to the Birmingham Foundation Academy.

For further information see the Birmingham Foundation Academy website.

Undergraduate

The University will consider students who have taken A level examinations and the International Baccalaureate (IB) for entrance to undergraduate programmes.

Students who have completed the first year of a University programme in Vietnam will be considered for direct entry of the undergraduate programme at the University of Birmingham.
Many students who have studied in Vietnam have followed a 12 year education system. For admission onto an Undergraduate degree programme, the University of Birmingham requires all applicants to have studied for 13 years, and therefore you may need to take a foundation year before commencing your undergraduate programme.

Postgraduate

Holders of a Bachelor degree from a recognised Vietnamese institution (usually achieved with the equivalent of a second class upper or a grade point average minimum GPA of 7.0 and above) will be considered for postgraduate study at Diploma or Masters level.

Holders of a Masters degree (thac si) will be considered for entry to PhD programmes.

English Language

You may be required to provide evidence of your English ability. Please view the entry requirements for specific programme requirements.
