The University provides general and specialist research level collections of books, journals, microfilm and online resources to support teaching and research in the School of Government and Society and the School of Social Policy.

Our collections

Main Library

The main location for books, journals and microforms in:

  • political science
  • international studies
  • sociology
  • local government studies
  • social policy and social work
  • international development
  • Russian and East European studies
  • health services management

The Main Library is also the location of the Baykov Collection of social sciences material relating to the Soviet Union/Russia and Eastern Europe. It is a research focused collection with the majority of the items in Slavonic languages and includes specialised monographs, journals, newspapers and microfilm. A number of local and national Communist Party and State archives and statistics are available on microfilm and there is a unique collection of Soviet era school textbooks. Posters and maps from the same era are housed in the Cadbury Research Library on the Edgbaston Campus 

Health Services Management Centre Library

In addition to material held in the Main Library, the Health Services Management Centre has its own library with a specialist collection.
