The MSc Pharmaceutical Enterprise programme is delivered by experts in the field, many with on-going experience of the sector; and this ensures the programme maintains relevance in this fast moving industry.

The interactive teaching equips you with the medical, scientific, regulatory and business skills to achieve success. Internships and consultancy project opportunities arising from associated SME companies offer highly prized ‘real life’ experiences.

The MSc Pharmaceutical Enterprise programme aims to provide you with a toolbox of skills to enable you to:

  • select, develop and commercialise projects with therapeutic potential
  • create, seek funding and take leading executive roles in companies to exploit the commercial potential of projects in a spin-out/SME environment

  • Practitioners include those with experience of executive roles in SME pharmaceutical companies including the Programme Director, Professor Nicholas Barnes, who is the Principle Founder and CEO of Celentyx Ltd, a successful venture capital backed pharmaceutical company. He is also Professor of Neuropharmacology at the University of Birmingham. 
  • The University has strong links to several large and SME pharmaceutical companies and has a successful track record in translational medicine and commercialisation facilitated by the External Commercialisation Board; members of which contribute to the MSc Pharmaceutical Enterprise programme.

Postgraduate Loans for Masters students

You can apply for a government loan of up to £10,280 per student for postgraduate Masters study. This is a contribution towards the costs of study and whether the loan is used towards fees, maintenance or other costs will be at the discretion of the student. Global Scholarships for Excellence

The College of Medical and Dental Sciences is offering a number of Global Scholarships for Excellence for outstanding students on our postgraduate taught programmes. The value of each award is £2,000 to be off-set against tuition fees, is tenable for one year only and cannot be deferred to a later year.

How To Apply

International students requiring visas

Monday 1 July 2019 is the application deadline for international students who require a visa to study in the United Kingdom. We are not able to consider applications for 2019 made after this date - a new application should be made for September 2020. Applications will reopen for 2020 entry in early October 2019.

Our Standard Requirements

You will need a relevant degree with at least a 2:1 or equivalent to enter this programme. This can include a business or science based degree.

English language requirements
You can satisfy our English language requirements in two ways:

English to IELTS 7.0 (with a minimum of 6.5 in each component).

If you need help with your English language skills then support is available. 

The English for Academic Purposes Presessional course is for international students who have a conditional offer to study at the University, but who do not currently meet the English language requirements. The course is tailored to your level of English and allows you to meet the English language requirements for your programme without retaking IELTS. The EAP programme runs throughout the year and offers different programme lengths ranging from 42 weeks to 6 weeks. The length of course you need depends on your future course, your existing IELTS score and the English level you need for your university degree.
