Students at a cafe event

Our Café PhD events are informal social events designed to enable anyone interested in postgraduate research to network with current PhD students from across our five colleges: Arts and Law, Social Sciences, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Medical and Dental Sciences, and Life and Environmental Sciences.

Come along to find out more about the postgraduate experience while studying for a PhD at the University of Birmingham. The event will cover both the academic and non-academic aspects of life as a postgraduate student including motivations, the application process, funding, accomodation and wellbeing.

Our Café PhD will generally begin with a panel of postgraduate students discussing their current course with questions welcomed at any point before an open Q&A. With plenty of refreshments throughout the event and opportunity to network with fellow students, it's a good opportunity to explore postgraduate study with no obligations.

Please note: There is also the opportunity to join a PhD specific campus tour at 2pm, before the Cafe PhD, led by one of our current PhD students. To book, please select the relevant tour on the Cafe PhD booking form.
